Scholarships in Axie Infinity are there to provide free entry to players. Scholarships function by providing accounts for free to those who are interested in playing the game. In turn, the scholarships will take a percentage / flat cut of the SLP earned by a play. For example, if a scholarship takes a 65-35% split, a player who earns 200 SLP will only receive 130 SLP.
As mentioned earlier, scholarships provide players free entry to the game with no risk involved. This is because the players will not be putting in any capital into the game and will not be affected in whatever way even if the game were to die off. Without a doubt, there are people who consider joining scholarships, making enough money, and then buying their own teams.
